Decor With A Dream is a home decor publication organised the way people actually renovate: one room at a time, with a style in mind and a budget that has an edge to it.
What we are trying to do
Most decorating advice online is a list of twelve photographs with a sentence under each. It is pleasant to scroll and almost useless when you are standing in the room holding a tape measure. We would rather write one article that tells you the actual measurement, what it costs, and where the job tends to go wrong.
That means we take positions. We will tell you that open shelving is a bad idea in most kitchens, that your rug is two sizes too small, and that painting a small room white rarely helps. You are welcome to disagree — but you will always know what we think and why.
Who writes it
Almost everything here is written and edited by Eleanor Whitfield, who also answers the email. Eleanor Whitfield is a pen name, and one real person stands behind it and is accountable for what appears on this site. There are no guest posts and no outside contributors; if that ever changes, it will be said clearly at the top of the article.
She is not a qualified interior designer and does not claim to be. What she does is read widely, test things at home, get a fair number of them wrong, and write down what turned out to be true. Where a job is structural, electrical or gas, the advice is to stop and call somebody qualified — see the disclaimer.
How the site is organised
Every article belongs to one room, so if you are working on a bathroom you can read everything we have written about bathrooms. Every article also carries a style tag, so if you already know you want Japandi or farmhouse, you can read across every room at once. Seasonal pieces are tagged separately and published well ahead of the season, because that is when people plan.
How we make money
