This page exists so you can judge how much to trust what you read here. It is written plainly and it is meant to be held to.
Who writes this
Articles are written and edited by Eleanor Whitfield, who is the editor of this site. Eleanor Whitfield is a pen name; a single real person stands behind it, reads every email sent to the site, and is accountable for what appears here. The about page explains why the site exists.
We do not publish guest posts, and we do not accept articles written by anyone outside the site. If that changes, this page will change first and every such article will say so at the top.
How articles are researched
Every piece starts from a specific problem rather than a keyword. Where a measurement, cost or material property is stated, it comes from manufacturer documentation, published standards, or direct experience of doing the job — not from other blogs repeating each other.
Where something is a matter of taste rather than fact, we say so and take a position anyway. Where we are uncertain, we say that too. An article that hedges every sentence is no use to anyone standing in a half-decorated room.
On AI
AI tools are used here the way a spellchecker or a research assistant is used: to draft outlines, to check phrasing, to find sources worth reading. Every article is directed, edited and signed off by a person, and every factual claim is the editor’s responsibility, not a tool’s. We do not publish unreviewed machine-generated text.
Money, and what it cannot buy
- We do not accept payment for coverage. No sponsored posts, no paid placements inside articles, no paid links.
- No brand sees an article before publication or has any say over what it says.
- Affiliate links may earn us a commission at no extra cost to you. They never determine what we recommend. Where the cheap option is the right one, we say so, even though it earns less. The affiliate disclosure covers this in full.
- Advertising is sold in blocks, not in sentences. Advertisers have no influence on editorial content and no advance sight of it.
Photography
Images are a mixture of licensed stock photography and our own images, and the balance is shifting towards the second. We do not present a stock photograph as a room we decorated, and we do not use AI-generated images of interiors as though they were real rooms.
Corrections
We get things wrong. When we do, we fix the article and add a dated note saying what was changed — we do not quietly edit and pretend it was always right. If you have found an error, write to us and we would genuinely like to know.

Updating older articles
Articles about prices, products and trends age quickly. We revisit them and update rather than leaving stale advice online. Where a piece has been substantially revised, the byline shows an updated date alongside the original one.
